AUTO ACCIDENT CAUSES DEATH OF AGED MAN
Injuries Suffered a Week Ago Fatal To Henry Carstens of Brillion
Injuries suffered a week ago when he was struck by an automobile
on a Brillion street caused the death this morning of Henry
Carstens, 82, retired Manitowoc county farmer.
A car driven by Rudolph Seljan, Brillion, struck the former
county resident as he stepped off the curb in front of the home
of a son, Henry, Jr., with whom the elder Carstens lived. He
was on his way to church services.
Injured Internally
Mr. Carstens sustained internal injuries which caused his death.
A coroner's jury viewed the body today. An inquest will be held
at Brillion next Wednesday.
Seljan told authorties he was unable to stop his car in time
because of the slippery street.
Funeral services for Mr. Carstens who engaged in farming in
Manitowoc Rapids, will be held Monday at 1 p.m. from the Henry
Carstens, Jr. home and at 1:30 o'clock from the Trinity Lutheran
church, Brillion. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery in this
city.
Retired 16 Years Ago
Mr. Carstens was born in Newton in 1854 and took up a farm in
Manitowoc Rapids. He married Miss Anna Meyer in 1879. He retired
16 years ago and eight years later moved to Brillion. Mrs.
Carstens died in 1929.
Survivors are four sons, Christian of Rapids, Louis of Alverno,
Harvey of Branch and Henry Jr. of Brillion; two daughters, Mrs.
Minnie Waak of Newton and Mrs. Leo Szabado of Brillion; a
brother, John of Newton; 2 grandchildren and 10 great-grand-
children.

Brillion. - (Special) -
Henry Carstens, Sr., 82, for 42 years a Manitowoc county farmer, died at the home
of his son, Henry, Jr., in Brillion at 7:30 a.m. today.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Carstens' home and at
1:30 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran church. The Rev. Martin Sauer will officiate
and burial will be made in Evergreen cemetery at Manitowoc.
Mr. Carstens was born April 16, 1854, in Newton. On March 27, 1879, he was married
to Miss Anna Meyer. After farming for 42 years in Manitowoc county he moved to
Brillion 16 years ago.
His wife preceded him in death on Feb. 22, 1929. A brother, E. M. Carstens of
Manitowoc died Dec. 17, 1936.
Survivors include one brother, John, and six children, Christian and Louis of
Manitowoc Rapids, Henry, Jr., of Brillion, Harvey of Branch, Mrs. Minnie Waack
of Newton, and Mrs. Anna Szabados. There are 22 grandchildren and 10 great
grandchildren.
