Together with his brother Robert he worked with underground magazines in Odense. Later they moved to Copenhagen, where his brother served in the Danish Navy. After the August revolt (riots in various Danish cities because of the collaboration between the Danish government and the German occupation forces) the 2 brothers wished to flee to Sweden and from there travel to England and report for allied duty. Both were trained kayak rowers and tried to cross the Øresund (the strait that separates Denmark and Sweden). But they both drowned during the attempt.
The two brothers share the same burial place at Odense Cemetery.
