Sister Inez was born Emilia Vieira in Porto, Portugal on June 11, 1915, to Francisco and Maria Rita Zacarias Vieira.
In July 1932, she entered the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary in Guimarães, Portugal, where she made her first vows on May 8, 1936. She also made her final vows in Guimarães on August 27, 1941.
Sister Inez first served in Portugal, at the Sacred Heart of Mary schools in Braga, Lisbon, and Guarda.
She came to the United States in 1948 and became a member of the support staff, first at Marymount in Tarrytown, NY, and then at Marymount School, New York, NY.
She was assigned to Richmond, Virginia in 1951, when St. Bridget’s School in the West End opened. She served at St. Bridget’s School and Convent for one year. The following year, 1952, Marymount School on Cary Street Road opened. Sister Inez left St. Bridget’s and began a forty-one year ministry at Marymount School. She served in many capacities, including being infirmarian and teaching sewing. In these and in many other roles, she influenced and touched the lives of all the students who went to Marymount School, Richmond, VA. In 1993, Sister Inez retired to Marymount Convent, Tarrytown, NY, where she was living at the time of her death.
