Professional Football Player. For seven seasons (1970 to 1976), he played at the running back position in the National Football League with the Atlanta Falcons and Philadelphia Eagles. Born Arthur Lee Malone, he was raised in Arizona where he attended Santa Cruz Valley Union High School and played collegiate football at Arizona State University. While with the Sun Devils, he distinguished himself as he received All-Western Athletic Conference First Team twice (1968 and 1969) and Second-Team All-American recognition. At the conclusion of his collegiate career, Malone found himself among the ranks of the school's all-time leaders in rushing yardage. Selected by Atlanta during the 2nd round of the 1970 NFL Draft, he appeared in 80 regular season games. He yielded career-highs in rushing yardage with 798 and touchdowns with 8 while as a Falcon in 1972. After retiring from football, he returned to Arizona State University where he served in the athletic department. He was inducted into the Arizona State University Athletic Hall of Fame. His younger brother Benny Malone went onto become an accomplished NFL player in his own right.
