Virginia Martin, 90, of Oxford, Kansas, passed away, August 1, 2012 at her home in rural Winfield, KS.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, August 4th at the Oxford Christian Church Oxford, Kansas. Burial will be in the Oxford Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, August 3rd from 9:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M. with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Oxford Funeral Service Chapel. A memorial has been established with the Oxford Christian Church. Contributions can be left at the funeral home. Virginia was born August 23, 1921 in Langdon Kansas. She was the fourth child born to Alva LeRoy and Mabel "Chrislip" Cranston. She attended schools in Langdon, Augusta, and Winfield, KS. graduating from Winfield High School in 1939. After graduation, she attended Emporia State University before returning to Winfield to graduate with a teaching degree from Southwestern College. She started her teaching career in Udall, KS. She also taught in Oxford and finished her teaching career in Mulvane, retiring after 39 years of instructing and inspiring children.

Virginia and Wallace were united in marriage on May 23, 1947 in Winfield, Kansas. They lived and farmed east of Oxford until they retired from farming and moved into Oxford in 1995. Survivors include her two sisters, Neva Wilcox of Arkansas City and Junea Lawrence of Winfield; her nephews; Cal Davis, Terry Lawrence, Wiley Wilcox, Kendall Cranston, Dennis Cranston, and Doyle Denney; nieces; Kathy Michael, Kristy Lawrence, Joanna Orr, Julie White, Louann Morgan, Norma Turner, and Elaine Cranston; and many great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Dean Martin; two brothers, Erlis and Merle Cranston and one sister, Madena Denney.
