He was captured, date unknown, and exchanged at Aiken's Landing, Virginia, September 21, 1862. He resigned his commission, June 19, 1863. Clark was born the same year. No occupation was listed for him there in the 1870 U.S. Census where the family resided in Ward 2. The 1880 U.S. Census shows the family still residing in Cambridge, MA with Thomas working as an officer in the custom's house. The 1890 U.S. Census for Veterans shows Thomas still in Cambridge, residing at 88 Windsor St. but having trouble with his right leg due to war-time service.
