Anton G. Bartel, 88, 228 Court St., Chilton, died on Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000 at the Beverly Health Care Center in Chilton.
He was born on Oct. 17, 1911 in St. Nazianz, the son of the late Joseph and Theresia (Leidermann) Bartel.
He married Romilda M. Meyers on May 27, 1947 at St. Charles Catholic Church in Charlesburg. She preceded him in death on April 27, 1993. Anton serviced in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was a self-employed contractor in the Chilton area until his retirement in 1976. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Chilton, the VFW Post No. 3153.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary (John) Geiser of Chilton; seven grandchildren, Daniel (Estela) Geiser of Brillion, Glenn (Kim) Geiser of Baraboo, Brian, Joelle, Renee, Laura and Sarah Geiser; two sisters, Fr. Terese Bartel of Campbellsport, and Helen (Germain) Mertens of slinger; a brother, John (Virginia) Bartel of Chilton, and a sister-in-law, Mabel Bartel of Sheboygan.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Janelle Geiser; five brothers, Joseph, Frank, George, Bill and Al Bartel; and two sisters, Marie Kriegl and Minnie Jahn.
Funeral services were held at St. Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. Gary New, SDS as officiant. Spring burial will be in the parish cemetery.
