Mrs. Bessie Mae Clark, age 84, of Route 2, Rockmart, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, in a Rome hospital. Born in Polk County on June 1, 1903 (marker has June 19, 1903) Mrs. Clark was the daughter of the late Charlie and Della Bond Jackson. She was a member of the Morning View Baptist Church. Mrs. Clark was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Clark, and a son, Curtis Lewis Clark. She is survived by two sons, Leroy Clark and Tom Clark, both of Rockmart; three daughters, Mrs. Jo Birdsong of Macon, Mrs. Dorothy Weaver and Mrs. Shirley Tucker, both of Rockmart; one brother, Manco Jackson of Rockmart. Fifteen grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 4, at 4 p.m. at the Morning View Baptist Church. The Rev. Lawrence Garrett and the Rev. Bobby McDowell officiated. Interment was in the Morning View Cemetery. Pallbearers were Tommy, Gary, Ricky and Michael Clark, Donald Lester and John Jarvis. The Freeman Harris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. (The Rockmart Journal, December 9, 1987)
