Bernard (Ben) Brandel age 50 a former Town of Franklin farmer who 5 weeks ago retired and moved to 2222 Lexington Dr., Manitowoc, died Tuesday morning at Holy Family Hospital Manitowoc, following a lingering illness.

Funeral services 9:45am Thursday at Saur Funeral Home Kellnersville 10am at St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Right Rev. Msgr. Joseph Kalisek will officiate at a solemn requiem high Mass. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery Manitowoc.

Born 25 September 1911 in the Town of Cato to the late Joseph and Mary Schreiner Brandel, he married the former Margaret Ebert of Whitelaw on 22 May 1935 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Whitelaw and they settled on a farm in the Town of Franklin. He was a member of the Holy Name Society of St. Joseph congregation.

Surviving are his wife and mother of Manitowoc; 7 brothers: Charles, Leonard, Leander of Columbus, Ohio and Victor, Ottmar, Robert, Herbert all of Manitowoc; 7 sisters: Sister Hermangild of Holy Family Convent, Mrs. George Reiderer, Mrs. Raymond Mahloch, Mrs. Andrew Budnar, Mrs. Ann Ebert all of Manitowoc, Mrs. Bernard Augustine of Sheboygan, Mrs. Paul Steeber of Rt. 1, Reedsville; several nieces and nephews.

A brother Joseph preceded him in death in 1951 leaving several children as orphans. Ben and Margaret took in three of the boys creating an instant family.

Friends may call after 3pm Wednesday at the funeral home where the Rosary will be recited at 7:30pm by the Holy Name Society and at 8:30 by Msgr Kalisek.
