HERBERT VICTOR BRANDEL age 79 of 416 S 26th St died 2 September 2001 at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center.

Funeral services 9:30am at Pfeffer Funeral Home and 10am Thursday, September 6 at St Paul Catholic Church Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev Ronald Reimer. Burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery Manitowoc. Grave side military rites accorded by AMVETS Post #99.

Born 29 March 1922 in the town of Cato to the late Joseph W and Mary Schreiner Brandl, he served in the US Army from 1942-46 in the European Theater with the 252nd Field Artillery Battalion which was involved in the Battle of the Bulge. 5 July 1944 he married Arline Benishek at St Mary Catholic Church Clarks Mills. He was a lifelong Manitowoc County resident.

Herbert worked for Medusa Portland Cement Co. for 32 years retiring in 1980. He then was a courier for Holy Family Memoral Medical Center from 1984 to 1997. He was a life member of AMVETS Post #99 and a member of St Paul Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife Arline Brandel, Manitowoc; 2 sons and a daughter-in-law: Michael Brandel of Appleton, Patrick and Linda Brandel, Manitowoc; son-in-law Joseph VanElls, Manitowoc; 5 grandchildren: Todd VanElls of Madison, Scott (Connie) VanElls of Manitowoc, Erin Brandel of New Haven CT, Nathan and Adam Brandel both of Marquette MI; 3 great grandchildren: Ryan, Alec, Tessandra VanElls; sister Ann Ebert, Manitowoc; brother Jack Brandel, Columbus OH; 3 sisters-in-law Marcella Brandel and Margaret Greis both of Manitowoc, Rita Brandel of Columbus OH; brother-in-law Paul Steeber, Manitowoc; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by daughter Diane VanElls; granddaughter Vicki VanElls; 2 great grandchildren: Zachary and Alexis; 7 brothers: Charles, Joseph, Victor, Leonard, Bernard, Robert, Ottmar Brandel; 7 sisters: Sophie Brandl, Veronica Riederer, Elizabeth Augustine, Agnes Mahloch, Bernice (Pat) Steeber, Rose Budnar, Sister Hermengild Brandel.
