Ottmar A. Brandel, age 81, of 2021 Sharon Lane, Manitowoc died Tuesday, June 27, 2000 at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc. Funeral Services at 10:30 am Friday, June 30 at Pfeffer Funeral Home and 11 am at Holy Innocents Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. Gerald Foley with burial to follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Graveside Military Rites will be accorded by V.F.W Otto Oas Post 659, Manitowoc.

Born 27 September 1918, in the town of Cato, Manitowoc County to the late Joseph W. and Mary Schriner Brandel, Ottmar served in the US Navy from 1943-1945. On May 8, 1941 he married the former Grace Hynek at St. Mary Catholic Church, Clarks Mills. They lived in Green Bay for 20 years before moving to Manitowoc in 1988. She preceded him in death June 16, 1999. Ottmar worked for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad Company for 45 years retiring in 1980. He was a member of the VFW Otto Oas Post 3659 of Manitowoc, senior Citizens of Manitowoc, and a 50 year member of Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees.

Survivors include a son David Brandel of Bridgeport, Conn.; 2 brothers and a sister-in-law Herbert and Arlene Brandel, Manitowoc, Jack Brandel of Columbus, Ohio; sister Anne Ebert, Manitowoc; 5 sisters-in-law Emily Kubichka, Grace Hynek, Marcella Brandel, Margaret Brandel all of Manitowoc and Rita Brandel of Columbus, Ohio; brother-in-law Paul Steeber, Manitowoc; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by 6 brothers Charles, Joseph, Victor, Leonard, Bernard, Bob; 7 sisters Sophie Brandel, Veronica Riederer, Elizabeth Augustine, Agnes Mahloch, Beatrice (Pat) Steeber, Rose Budnar, Sr Hermengild Brandel; 8 brothers-in-law Edwin Hynek, Clarence Hynek, John Hynek, Stanley Kubichka, George Riederer, Bernard Augustine, Ray Mahloch, Andrew Budnar; 2 sisters-in-law Elizabeth (Betty) Brandel and Anna Brandel.

The family will greet relatives and friends at Pfeffer Funeral Home Manitowoc from 5-8 pm Thursday where a prayer service will be held at 6:30 pm led by Deacon Ken Nelesen. Memorials would be appreciated to the American Cancer Society. Herald Times Reporter, June 29, 2000 pA2
