Mrs. Ephraim (Gertrude) Broderick, 79, of 613 N. Ninth St., Manitowoc, died Thursday evening in Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday in First Lutheran Church Chapel, Manitowoc. The Rev. Bruce Hanstedt will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Mrs. Broderick, nee Gertrude Melzer was born Dec. 1, 1899, in Clintonville, daughter of the late William and Maria Yankee Melzer. She had worked as a legal secretary for Nash and Nash Law Firm prior to her marriage to Harry DeSmidt in 1928. Mr. DeSmidt was former owner and operator of Beerntsen's Confectionery. He preceded her in death in 1962. She had worked for Atty. John R. Cashman prior to her marriage to Ephraim Broderick in 1964. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, Our Savior Altar Guild, Manitowoc Yacht Club Auxiliary, Manitowoc Elks Club Auxiliary and the Masquers.
Survivors include her husband, Ephraim, a daughter and son-in-law, Marilee and William Meissner of Manitowoc; two brothers, Walter Melzer of Oconomowoc and William Melzer of West Bend; two sisters, Mrs. William E. (Irene) Nimz of Aurora, Colo., and Mrs. Bert (Ruth) Halfpap of Denver, Colo.; two grandsons and a grand daughter-in-law, John and Peggy Savage and Peter Savage and a granddaughter, Mrs. Ann Savage. Other survivors are Mr. Broderick's children, John Patrick Broderick of Milwaukee and James Leonard Broderick of Sheboygan and Mrs. Robert (Ruth) Pribek of LaCrosse, also nieces and nephews. A brother, Roy, preceded her in death.
Friends may call in Parkside Funeral Home 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church.
