LEONARD CHRIST CARSTENS

Leonard C. Carstens, age 88, of 1480 N. Seventh St., formerly of 2121 Sharon Lane, Manitowoc, died Sunday morning, Aug. 13, 2006, at the Aurora Medical Center of Manitowoc. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2006, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Newtonburg. The Rev. Victor Headrick and the Rev. Gregory Pope will officiate with burial at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Leonard was born on Aug. 16, 1917, in Newton, son of the late William and Alma Krueger Carstens. He graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1935. Leonard married the former Marie Carstens on Sept. 23, 1944, at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manitowoc. She preceded him in death on July 13, 2006. The couple farmed in the town of Newton before moving to Manitowoc in 1987. He was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church and Senior Citizens Bowling. He enjoyed reading. Survivors include one son: Larry Carstens, Newton; one daughter and son-in-law: Judy (Jim) Bieberitz, Manitowoc; two grandchildren: Jennifer (Doug) Owen, Manitowoc; Jeremy Bieberitz, Madison; two great-grandchildren: Wesley and Derek Owen of Manitowoc; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Alice (Norbert) Nelson, Manitowoc; Virginia (Helmer) Hanson, Green Bay; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Emil Carstens, Manitowoc; Evelyn Carstens, Manitowoc; Harvey (Betty) Carstens, Florida; Ruth (William) Behnke; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends survive. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife: Marie; one sister-in-law: Evelyn Carstens; and one brother-in-law: Elmer Carstens. Relatives and friends may call at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Newtonburg on Tuesday (TONIGHT) from 4 until 7 p.m. and again on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Memorials may be made to St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church memorial fund or Manitowoc Lutheran High School. The Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home of Manitowoc is serving the Carstens family. Leonard's family would like to share a special thank you with the staff of Harbor House for all the care and concern shown to Leonard during his stay.
