HILDA CAVANAUGH

Miss Hilda M. Cavanaugh of 528 N. Fourth St, Manitowoc died unexpectedly early
Sunday morning at home. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a m Wednesday at
Schneider-Mittnacht Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church,
Manitowoc. The Rev. Donald Schneider will officiate with burial in Evergreen
Cemetery Manitowoc. Miss Cavanaugh was born at Maple Grove daughter of the late
Dan and Catherine Morrisey Cavanaugh. She attended Manitowoc County schools and
was graduated from Lincoln High School and Manitowoc County Teachers College.
She obtained her BA degree from Wisconsin State University Oshkosh and her MA
degree from University of Wisconsin Madison. She taught at Whitelaw Woodcock and
Goodwin rural schools in Manitowoc County. For 40 years she was a school supervisor
in Rusk, Richland and Sauk counties. She was an instructor at Mamitowoc Teachers
College for five years. She also taught summer sessions at University of Wisconsin
Milwaukee, Superior, Oshkosh and Platteville as well as extension classes at
University of Wisconsin, Madison.
At the time of her death Hilda was employed as a psychometrist and consultant
in special education for CESA No. 10 She was co-author of the book Poster Making
in the Elementary Schools. She was a member of Wisconsin Library Commission and
a member of board of directors of the Wisconsin Junior Historical Society. She
was currently a member of the mayors Advisory Committee.
Survivors include five brothers Edwin, John, Dan and Woodrow, of Manitowoc and
Ted, of Planview Minn; four sisters, Mrs Frank (Mary) Wanish, Mrs Edwin (Ceil)
Soukup, Mrs E.H. (Irene) Kruck and Fran Cavanaugh of Manitowoc, and several nieces
and nephews. A brother, Dr. M.G. Cavanaugh of Milwaukee and a sister Marcella
preceded her in death. Friends may call at Schneider-Mittnacht Funeral Home from
4 to 9 p m Tuesday where a prayer service will be conducted at 7:30 p. m.
