Loretta A. Cavanaugh, age 96, a resident of Manitowoc, entered into eternal
life on Monday, Feb. 22, 2010, at North Ridge Medical and Rehabilitation
Center.
Loretta was born on Jan. 30, 1914, in the town of Franklin, to the late William
and Mary Reznichek Fritsch. She attended schools in Manitowoc County. In April
of 1939, Loretta married Edwin T. Cavanaugh in Manitowoc. Edwin preceded her in
death on Oct. 27, 1979. Loretta and Edwin operated the Grimms Cheese Factory and
later the Taus Cheese Factory. In 1956, they moved to Manitowoc. Loretta worked
as a sales associate for Johnson Hills Department store until her retirement. She
enjoyed spending her time gardening, baking, playing sheepshead, and especially
being with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Loretta was a
member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish and the St. Clare Society.
Survivors include her four children: Janet (Kenneth) Jilek, Manitowoc; Judy (John)
Dietrich, Cato; Burl (Patricia) Cavanaugh, Manitowoc; and Linda (Les) Mott,
Manitowoc; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law: Ruth
Cavanaugh, Appleton; also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Loretta
was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin; a brother: William Fritsch; four
sisters: Emily Svacina, Elsie Baroun, Evelyn Stuiber, and Olive Behnke.
The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo on
Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010, from 9 a.m. until the beginning of the Mass of Christian
Burial at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Daniel Felton will officiate with burial to follow
at Evergreen Cemetery.
The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Crematory, N. 11th and St. Clair streets,
Manitowoc is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
Loretta's family would like to extend a special thank you to the entire staff of
North Ridge Medical and Rehabilitation Center for the excellent care given to their
