Marie A. (Mary) Cherney, age 86, of 2003 Knuell St., Manitowoc, passed to her
eternity Sunday, January 3, 1993, at Two Rivers Community Hospital.
Funeral Services will be 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 6, 1993, at the Pfeffer
Funeral Home and 10 a.m. at Holy Innocents Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Presiding
at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Gerald Foley with burial to
follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
She was born March 16, 1906, at West Kewaunee, Wis., daughter of the late
Lawrence and Agnes Janowski Ratajczak. She attended school in West Kewaunee
and at the age of 14 traveled to Milwaukee where she was employed at various
housekeeping and factory jobs. She married Charles F. Cherney on November 27,
1930, at St. Hedwig Catholic Church, Kewaunee. The couple owned and operated
various taverns at East Krok and Kellnersville before moving to Rockwood in
1943. There the family owned and operated a dairy farm until 1973 and then
moved to Manitowoc. He preceded her in death May 18, 1975. She was a member
of Holy Innocents Catholic church.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence and Mary Cherney, Denmark;
two daughters and sons-in-law, Imogene and Floyd Weber, Manitowoc, Patricia and
Jim Jensen, Brillion; a brother, Nick Ratajczak, Manitowoc; a son-in-law, Fred J.
Jansky, Sheboygan. She is further survived by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law,
along with 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other
relatives and friends. She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Caroline
May Jansky and LaJune Cherney, two brothers and five sisters.
