EARTHLY SLEEP MERGED INTO DEATH FOR HER
Death's summons, due to heart failure, came to Mrs. Henry Detjen, Sr., as she
was asleep early this morning at the family home, Fifteenth and Hamilton streets,
members of the family finding her in calm repose of the sleep that knows no
waking when they visited her room. Mrs. Detjen had suffered from neuritis for
some time and it attacked the heart and caused her sudden demise.
Funeral services will be held from St. John's Evangelical church Monday afternoon
at 2 o'clock, the Rev. E.A. Kuhn officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen.
Mrs. Detjen was 69 years of age, having been born in this county in 1860 (sic).
Her maiden name was Anna Pape and she was married to Mr. Detjen fifty-three years
ago, the family for many years having resided at Clover. Six of seven children
born to the couple survive with Mr. Detjen, being Mrs. Helen Kuehne, Mrs. Anna Weyer
and Henry Detjen, of this city; Carl, Milwaukee and Reinholdt and Erick of Newton.
One brother August Pape at Milwaukee and a sister, Mrs. Joseph Detjen, of Wauwatosa
also survive, together with twelve grandchildren.
Mrs. Detjen was well known and was beloved by all who knew her for womanly qualities
and her kindly character. Her death is a shock to a wide circle of friends.
