Milton A. Detjen, 75, of 2127 Richmond Avenue, Manitowoc, died Wednesday, Nov. 23, at Memorial Hospital, Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, Nov. 28, at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. Keith Haag will officiate with burial at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Mr. Detjen was born February 11, 1908, at Manitowoc, Wisconsin, son of the late Henry and Julia Liebert Detjen. He married Dorothy Meyer on Nov. 4, 1939, at First German Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. Mr. Detjen attended Lincoln High School, graduating in 1924. He was employed with Manitowoc Ship Building Company as a timekeeper and also served as director of the Sub-Mariner's Band which played for all submarine launching at Manitowoc. Mr. Detjen was the first director of the Society For The Preservation of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America. For 42 years Mr. Detjen had served as organist for Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he also served as President of the Congregation along with holding all other offices on the church council. Mr. Detjen was a very active member of the Manitowoc Senior Citizens where he was the head of the Warblers singing group. Mr. Detjen also had his own printing company where he printed and published 31 organ music books for church use which is played in more than 200 churches in the United States and Canada. He was also a member of the Musicians Local Union, Manitowoc Museum, Friends of the Library, and Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; two daughters and sons-in-law, Dianne and Ted Reinemann of Reedsville and Donna and Lawrence Reimer of Manitowoc; five grandchildren, Paula, Paul, Mark and Crystal Reinemann and Lisa Reimer, and two special friends, Bernice and Emmet Rodewald of Newton, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, Roland Detjen.
Friends may call at Parkside Funeral Home, Manitowoc, from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. Sunday and at the church on Monday from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service. The Family would appreciate memorials to Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc.
