EMMA (HENTSCHER) FEHRS

Mrs. Emma Laura Fehrs, Passes Away at So. Eight (sic) Street Home
at Aadvanced Age of 84
Mrs. Fehrs Passed Away
The death of Mrs. Emma Laure Fehrs, widow of the late Gustave Carl
Fehrs, at her home on south Eighth street Saturday evening removed
one of the best known pioneer residents of the county, a woman widely
known and highly esteemed in the community. Mrs. Fehrs had been in
failing health for a year and for several days it was known that
death was near. The end came at 10 Saturday evening.
Mrs. Fehrs was 84 years of age and had made her home in Manitowoc
since 18?3 when, with her husband, she came here from New York. She
was a native of Germany, born July 10, 1832, and was married there
to Mr. Fehrs in 18?3 and after a year in New York they removed to
this city where Mr. Fehrs established the jewelry business which his
son, G.A. Fehrs, still conducts. Mr. Fehrs died in 1898.
Mrs. Fehrs was beloved by all who knew her and her death will bring
a sense of personal loss to a large circle of friends. She was a
woman who gave her first attention to her home, yet her social nature
was one of the dominant features of her character.
Mrs. Fehrs was a woman of broad charity and her unassuming and kindly
benefactions will long be cherished by many who were recipients of her
helpfulness. During the last year of her life, in which illness made
it impossible for her to continue the minstrations which she had loved
to bestow, this inability was one of the sorrows of her declining
days.
Mrs. Fehrs is survived by three children, two daughters and one son,
Mrs. Emma White, who made her home with mother, Mrs. Robert Haukuhl of
Milwaukee and G.A. Fehrs of this city.
The funeral will be held Wednesday and will be private from the home.
Friends are requested to omit flowers.
