Donald A. Hansen, age 88, of Reedsville, Wis., passed away Monday, December 11,
2000, following a short illness at Western Village Health and Rehabilitation,
Green Bay, Wis.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 15, 2000, at Redeemer
Lutheran church, Manitowoc. Officiating will be Rev. Richard Miller and burial of
his cremated remains will take place at Evergreen Cemetery.
Donald was born October 31, 1912, in Two Rivers, Wis., son of the late Hans and
Jessie Derby Hansen. Donald married Beatrice (Tatosky) Vanden Avond, September 13,
1969, in Green Bay. Don attended schools in Two Rivers, and graduated with the
class of 1934 from Washington High School, Two Rivers. Don was employed as a
Machinist at the Manitowoc Engineering Company, and later C.A. Lawton Company,
DePere, Wis., until his retirement in 1976. Don and Beatrice did extensive traveling
in the States and Canada, working as volunteers at Yosemite National Park, California,
Lake Meade National Recreation Area, Hoover Dam, Nevada and Dinosaur National Monument
in Utah. Don served as Scout Master at St. Paul's Methodist Church, Manitowoc. He was
a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Manitowoc, International Association Machinist
Lodge #516 of Manitowoc, of which he served as recording secretary. Don was also the
recording secretary of the State Council of International Association of Machinists,
officer of nine Midwestern states of the same union and past vice president of Lodge
#1798 in DePere, Wis. He also served on other various committees.
Don is survived by his wife of 31 years, Beatrice Hansen, Reedsville; three sons and
one daughter-in-law, Robert, Russell (Beverly), Gary, all of Manitowoc; one daughter
and son-in-law, Sandra (Randy) Neuser, Watertown, Wis.; one step son, LeRoy (Ellen)
Vanden Avond, Green Bay; three step daughters, Carol (Ken) Butry, Green Bay, Diane
(Frank) Vivod, Granite City, Ill., Marcie (Mike) Duffey, Bonduel, Wis.; 25
grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by his first wife,
Alice Brachmann, who he married in 1935, she passed on in 1965. He is also preceded
in death by five sisters, three brothers, and one grandson.
Relatives and friends may call at Redeemer Lutheran Church, on Friday, December 15,
2000 from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m.
The Jens Family Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family with funeral
arrangements.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation for the concerned and
professional care Don received at Western Village Health and Rehabilitation Center,
Green Bay.
