WALTON (WALLY) HANSON (d. 1998)

Walton (Wally) Hanson, age 86, of 410 Huron St., Manitowoc, died Wednesday,
June 10, 1998, at St. Vincent Hospital, Green Bay.
Memorial Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 13, 1998, at Jens Family
Funeral Home, Manitowoc. Rev. William Plank will officiate, with burial of his
cremated remains later at Evergreen Cemetery.
He was born May 25, 1912, at Manitowoc, son of the late Louis and Emelia
Rindfleisch Hanson. Wally grew up and was educated in Manitowoc, graduating from
Lincoln High School in 1930. He was married to Marion Hall on March 13, 1941,
in Manitowoc. After his graduation from High School, he worked with the Manitowoc
Fire Department, and since the mid-1950s he was self-employed as a golf
professional, working at Manitowoc Elks golf course, and Meadow Links golf
course. Upon his retirement, he continued to be on the golf course as much as
possible. Wally was a member of the B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge #687 of Manitowoc. He
was enshrined in the Lakeshore All Sports Hall of Fame in 1978. Wally was a
well known golfer thoughout Northeastern Wisconsin. He was the Manitowoc County
Open golf champion for 12 years, and the Manitowoc County Amateur champion for
two yers. Wally ranked eight times in the top ten amateur golfers in Wisconsin.
He is survived by his wife, Marion; one son and daughter-in-law, Reid and Cheryl
Hanson, Manitowoc; Lynne and Ken Liebert, Green Bay; two grandsons, David Hanson,
Cottage Grove, Wis., Eric Hansen(sic), Oak Creek, Wis.; one brother Ludwig (Maudy)
Hanson, Orlando, Flor.; one sister, Harriet Nordbert, Oceanside, Calif.; one
sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Charles and Verna Gass, Manitowoc. Also
surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in
death by three brothers, Raymond, Elton, and Lester; two sisters, Ethel and
Millie.
Relatives and friends may call at the Jens Family Funeral Home on Saturday,
June 13, 1998, from 12 noon until the time of services at 1:00 p.m.
Memorials would be appreciated for the First Presbyterian Youth Group of
Manitowoc.
