Earl R. Hecker, age 80, of 2516 Hecker Road, Manitowoc, died Monday morning,
Feb. 18, 2002 at the family residence.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Bethany Evangelical Lutheran
Church, Manitowoc, with the Rev. Robert Kujawski and the Rev. Stephen Melso
officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Earl was born Dec. 5, 1921 in the town of Manitowoc Rapids, Manitowoc County,
to the late Emil and Dorothea Pluess Hecker. He was born and raised on the family
homestead in the township of Manitowoc Rapids. He received his education at the
Manitowoc Rapids Township School and also at Lincoln High School in Manitowoc.
Earl farmed the family dairy farm until 1957 when he became employed with the
Manitowoc Ship Building Company. In 1962 he was transferred to the Manitowoc
Engineering Co. from where he retired in March 1983. He married Loretta Lange
on May 19, 1945 at Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc.
Loretta and Earl had the honor of celebrating 56 years of marriage together. Earl
was a member of Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church. He enjoyed playing cards
along with his gardening and flowers.
Survivors include his wife: Loretta; one son and daughter-in-law: David and Theresa
Hecker, Branch; one daughter and son-in-law: Joanne and Carl Taylor, Havana, Ark.;
six grandchildren: Scott Hecker, Whitelaw; Shelly Hecker and special friend, Scott
Hodek, Two Rivers; Tina and Chad Hecker, at home; David Owens, Russellville, Ark.;
Diane Owens, Havana, Ark.; one great-granddaughter: Shelby Nicole Owens of Arkansas;
two brothers and three sisters-in-law: Lloyd and LaVerne Hecker, Manitowoc; Vernon
and Luella Hecker, Manitowoc; Mrs. Dorothy Ringmeier, Manitowoc; nieces, nephews,
cousins, along with other relatives and friends surviving including his pet Doberman
dog, King.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Emil and Dorothea Hecker; one brother:
Reuben; and one brother-in-law: Edward Ringmeier.
Friends may call at Bethay Evangelical Lutheran Church on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m.
and then on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m.
The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Cremation Center is assisting the family with
funeral arrangements.
