Jung, Elwood "Woody"

Elwood "Woody" Jung, age 91, a Manitowoc resident, entered into eternal life on Friday, July 15, 2011 at his home.

Woody was born on February 23, 1920 in Manitowoc to the late John and Margaret Adler Jung. Woody graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1937. He then enlisted with the United States Navy and served as an electrician's mate on the destroyer escort USS Foss until his honorable discharge in 1945. On June 28, 1947, Woody married Arlette Hoffman at First German Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manitowoc. He was employed at Rahr Malting and Anheuser Busch as chief electrician until his retirement in 1987. Woody enjoyed working in his yard, wintering in Georgia and Arizona, and spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years: Arlette; one son: Kevin (Gail) Jung, Atlanta, GA; four sisters-in-law: Delores Jung, Manitowoc; Wynoma Jung, Chandler, AZ; Luella Feyersen, Manitowoc; and Arvilla Daeke, FL; a special niece in Sue Schroeder; also other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Woody was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and two sisters.

The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Crematory, N. 11th and St. Clair streets, Manitowoc is assisting the family with arrangements.
