Anton (Tony) Kortas, 84, of 508 Waldo Blvd, Manitowoc, died Friday noon at
Memorial Hospital, Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home,
Manitowoc, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Mr. Kortas was born Aug. 15, 1892, in the Township of Newton, Manitowoc County,
son of the late Paul and Anna Hill Kortas. He grew up in the Newton area. After
overseas service in World War I, he returned to Manitowoc and founded the Kortas
Automotive Co. Inc., and was currently serving as chairman of the board.
He married the former Della Maertz Dec. 10, 1919 at Manitowoc. He was a member
of the Veterans of Foreign wars Otto Oas Post No. 659 American Legion Drews
Bleser Post No. 88 Izaak Walton League Shoto Recreation Club, National 4th Ivy
Division Association and several automotive industry associations.
Survivors include his wife, a son-in-law and daughter, William and Gladys
Schneider Jr. of Manitowoc, two brothers, William of Milwaukee and Edward, of
Manitowoc; three sisters, Mrs. William (Elsie) Goethke of Manitowoc, Mrs. Jack
(Martha) Sadler of Manitowoc and Theresa Craney of Milwaukee and a granddaughter,
Connie. Four brothers and a sister preceded him in death.
Friends may call at the Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday
and Monday until time of services. Memorials may be made to First German
Evangelical Lutheran Church Building Fund.
