DEATH BRINGS RELIEF FROM LONG ILLNESS
Suffering of Two Years Relieved as DeWitt McCarty Is Summoned Yesterday
DeWitt McCarty (sic), fifty-year-old father of nine children, passed away
yesterday afternoon at the family home at 426 North Seventh street, death
coming as a blessing of relief from suffering of nearly two years. Deceased
suffered a stroke more than a year ago and since had gradually failed though
his condition during the last six months appeared much improved over what
it had been. The end, however, was not unexpected.
Born and Raised Here
Born and raised in this city, Mr. McCarty was well known, leaving many friends
to mourn his passing. He was born in Manitowoc, December 29, 1857. For the
last twenty years he was in the employ of the Wisconsin Bell Telephone Co.,
but had not actively pursued his work for the last year because of ill health.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Maccabees and the Holy Name
Society of the Sacred Heart church.
Mr. McCarty leaves his wife who before their marriage on May 26, 1901, was
Mary Mohr, and his mother, Mrs. Sarah McCarthy, a brother, Frank of Chippewa
Falls, five daughters, Sylvia, Josephine, Clara and Lorraine, all of whom
lived with the parents, and Sister Rose Gertrude, of Kaukauna, and four sons,
Mark, Aloysius, Edward and Roland, all at home.
Funeral Tomorrow
Funeral services will be held tomorrow morning at nine from the Sacred Heart
church, the Rev. Father Luby officiating and burial will take place at
Evergreen.
The Holy Name Society of the Sacred Heart church, of which Mr. McCarty was a
member, will assemble at 8 o'clock at the church to attend the services in a
body.
