WILLIAM MCCARTY (sic), son of James McCarthy (sic) of Kossuth, and
Joseph Eatough, his uncle, formerly of this county, were drowned at
Gladstone on Monday night while bathing. Fred Sudderby, a railroad
engineer who was with them was drowned at the same time. No one
witnessed the drowning. At midnight a boy went to call Sudderby but
receiving no answer notified the family. Sudderby and McCarthy boarded
with Eatough. Mrs. Eatough remembered they had gone bathing and a
search of the beach resulted in the finding of the clothes of all three.
The bodies of Sudderby and McCarthy were recovered Tuesday morning.
They were both single men. Eatough leaves a wife and three children.
