PIONEER WOMAN RESIDENT HERE 59 YRS, DEAD
Mrs. Sophia Medaus is Victim of Heart Affection
Mrs. Sophia Medaus, a resident of Manitowoc county for fifty-six years, forty
of which were spent on a farm in Neshoto, where she located as a young girl
with her parents, died at the home of her son, Fred Medaus, 1510 Clark street,
this morning, aged 74. Mrs. Medaus had been seriously ill only two weeks,
having suffered from a heart affection that caused her demise.
Born in Germany May 2, 1840, Mrs. Medaus would have been 74 years old the day
after tomorrow had she lived. She came to America with her parents when 18
years of age and the family located on a farm north of the city. Fifteen years
ago Mr. and Mrs. Medaus came to the city and after the death of her husband Mrs.
Medaus made her home with her son.
Mrs. Medaus is survived by five children, William, Klemme, Iowa; Mrs. Otto
Schmidt, Oelwein, Ia.; Louis, Fond du Lac; Mrs. Fred Hoffman, Big Rapids, and
Fred, of this city. Three stepchildren and two brothers and a sister in Iowa
also survive.
The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon from the German Lutheran church, Rev.
Machmiller officiating.

Clark street at 1:30 and from the Lutheran church at 2 o’clock tomorrow
afternoon.

In the matter of the estate of Sophia Medaus, deceased. In probate.
An instrument in writing, purporting to be the last will and testament of Sophia
Medaus, of Manitowoc, in said county, having been delivered into said court:
And Fred Medaus of Manitwooc, in said county, having presented to said court his
perpetition (sic) in writing, duly verified, representing, among other things,
that said Sophia Medaus died testate, at Manitowoc in said county, on the 30th
day of April, 1914 that said Instrument is the last will of said deceased and that
said petitioner is named therein as executor, and praying that said Instrument be
proven and admitted to Probate and that letters testamentary be thereon issued to
said petitioner.
It is ordered, that said petition and the matters therein be heard, and proofs of
said last will and testament be taken, at a regular term of said County Court, to
be held at the Probate Office in the city of Manitowoc, on Tuesday, the 2nd day of
June, 1914, at 10 o'clock A.M.
And it is further ordered: That notice of the time and place of said hearing be
given by publication hereof, for three successive weeks, once each week, previous
to the time of said hearing, in the Manitowoc Post, a newspaper published in said
Manitowoc County.
