Nathaleen A. Mertz, age 81, of 910 East Cedar Ave., Manitowoc, died peacefully at her home on Saturday evening, May 3, 2003, surrounded by her family. Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 702 State Street, Manitowoc. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. David Hoffman. Cremation will have taken place with burial of the remains at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Nathaleen was born Oct. 8, 1921 in Manitowoc. She was the daughter of the late Edward P. and Lila Schweitzer Moakler. She was a graduate of Lincoln High School with the class of 1939. In past years she had been employed with Sears and Manitowoc Engineering. On June 24, 1944, Nathaleen was married to William C. Mertz at St. Paul's Catholic Church rectory. He preceded her in death Dec. 18, 1965. She was a long-time member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Nathaleen is survived by three sons, Michael (Kathlyn) Mertz, DePere; Patrick (Valerie) Mertz, Bath, Mich.; Andrew Mertz, Manitowoc; one daughter: Margaret "Peggy" Mertz, Valders; daughter-in-law: Susan Mertz, Manitowoc; one brother: Edward (Corinne) Moakler, Oshkosh; two sisters, twin sister: Madaleen Koehler, Manitowoc; Doris (Daniel) Kolodzeske, Superior; five grandsons: Adam, Ryan, Jason, Eric and Lucas: nieces, nephews along with other relatives and friends surviving. She was preceded in death by her husband William in 1965 and her son Robert H. Mertz in 1997. Friends may call at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. The family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation for the outstanding care by the staff at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center on 3 East, Critical Care Unit and 5 East as well as Holy Family Hospice and Deacon Rahlf. The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Cremation Care Center, 628 N. Water St., Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
