Mrs. Virgil (Wilhelmina "Minnie") Petska, age 79, of 1306 S. 14th St., Manitowoc,
died Friday afternoon, November 14, 1997, at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital,
Wauwatosa, Wis.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 18, 1997, at First
German Ev. Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. Rev. Joel Otto will officiate with burial
at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
She was born June 14, 1918, in the town of Two Rivers, Manitowoc County. She was
baptized by Rev. Zell at Mishicot and confirmed July of 1931 by Rev. Zell at St.
Peter Lutheran Church in Mishicot. She is the daughter of the late Charles and
Augusta Schloff Nickels. She was employed by her brother at the Keenway Grocery
Store and later employed as an arts and crafts teacher with the Manitowoc Book and
Gift Shop from where she retired in 1994. She married Virgil Petska on January 14,
1938, at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, Manitowoc, by Rev. Uetzmann. She was a member
of First German Ev. Lutheran Church, the Ladies Evening Circle of the church and
also worked with the church's Altar Guild.
Survivors include her husband, Virgil; one son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Barbara
Petska, Fond du Lac; one daughter, Judith Kiel, Manitowoc; nine grandchildren; 16 great-
grandchildren; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Alvin and Florence Nickels, Harold
and Mabel Nickels, Arthur and Audrey Nickels, all of Manitowoc; two sisters and two
brothers-in-law, Ruth and Emil Kuchenbecker, Manitowoc, Jeanette and Milton Berge,
Greendale, Wis. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harland and Carl; two
sisters, Hilda (Melvin) Grotbeck, Esther (John) Wilke; one grandson, Donald.
Friends may call at First German Ev. Lutheran Church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until
the time of service at 11 a.m.
Memorials would be appreciated to First German Ev. Lutheran Church or the donor's choice.
The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is assisting the Petska family with
