George L. Stern Sr., 86, of 770 E. Albert Dr., Manitowoc, died Saturday evening, Jan. 28, at Memorial Hospital, Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be 9 a.m. Wednesday at Pfeffer Funeral Home and 9:30 a.m. at Holy Innocents Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Daniel J. Felton and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Mr. Stern was born June 19, 1897, at Manitowoc, son of the late Andrew and Amelia Backmann Stern. He resided in Manitowoc all his life and attended Manitowoc public schools. He married Genevieve Stanzel on Sept. 18, 1926. Prior to retirement in 1968, Mr. Stern had been employed as a machinist at Smalley Manufacturing for over 40 years. Mr. Stern was a veteran of World War I serving with the United States Army.
Survivors include his wife, Genevieve; five sons and four daughters-in-law, Daniel and Helen Stern of San Diego, Calif., George Jr. and Betty Stern of York, Penn., Dennis and LaVern Stern of Yorba Linda, Calif., Thomas and Sharon Stern and James Stern of Manitowoc; two daughters and a son-in-law, Mrs. Deloris Cherney of Manitowoc and Mrs. Patricia and Norman DeBauche of Two Rivers; two sisters, Mrs. Della Loranga and Mrs. Ella Backmann of Manitowoc; 18 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Stanley Cherney, a brother and three sisters.
Friends may call at Pfeffer Fuenral Home, Manitowoc, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday where a prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m. by Deacon Paul Keiffer and the Daughters of Isabella.
