Franz Joseph Schottmueller, was the son of Reinhard and Helena (Wirth) Schottmueller. According to his mother Helena, Franz Joseph was "born on 5th December 1883 in the morning at 3:00 under the sign of Steinbock."

"Frank", as he was affectionally known to his family, was a bright and active little boy, and the fourth born son of his parents.

Sadly, his life came to a terrible end, when he was just three years, and seven months old. According to the family story that had been passed down by his mother, to her daughter, little Frank was bitten on the throat and face by a mad dog, in the family's own backyard. The dog was rabid.

Helena described the terrible pain the child went through as a result of this horrific attack, as follows: "The boy drooled from the mouth, was out of his mind at times, and chewed on the table legs and bed posters." Helen would ask him not to bite Mama and little Frank would answer:"No, Mama, I won't bite you."

Little Frank, died on the morning of July 14, 1887. He died from "Hydrophobia", as a result of the rabid dog bite.

Franz Joseph "Frank" Schottmueller, was buried at Calvary Cemetery, July 1887. He was survived by his parents, Reinhard and Helena Schottmueller, and siblings: Markus, John, Peter, Katherine, and Franziska, all of St. Louis, Missouri.
