DIED. Samuel C. Dunn, ex-trustee of this township, and one of our honored citizens, died at his home in this city Wednesday morning. He has been rapidly declining with cancer of the stomach for some time but his death was not expected so soon. The funeral will take place at the Presbyterian church this afternoon at 2 o’clock. Services by Rev. Wm. Torrance.

The Franklin Democrat, Friday, December 2, 1881, Volume XXI, Number 22, page 3, Col. 1 & 2
Owing to some peculiar features in the sickness of S. C. Dunn, the relatives desired that a post mortem examination be made in order to ascertain beyond a doubt the exact nature of the disease that caused his death. In accordance with this desire, which was shared by his attending physicians the Drs. Donnell, a post-mortem was held Thursday evening by these physicians, assisted by Drs. Wallace, Wood and Thompson. They found that the lower part of the stomach, and upper portion of the bowels were badly afflicted by a cancerous formation, thus proving that the diagnosis of the doctors was correct and that they were not mistaken as to the cause of death being cancer of the stomach and bowels.
