Inscription

Sacred
to the memory of
Capt. SAMUEL C. DAVEE,
who died
at St. Thomas
Dec. 30, 1836,
aged 41 years.

Midst strangers in a foreign land
Thou to thy Maker yield'st thy breath
Thy generous heart, thy open hand
Are silent in the arms of Death.
Thy Partner on life's dreary waste
Weeps for thy loss. Oh! how severe,
And to thy memory, constant pays
The contrite heart, the silent tear.
