Nancy McFerren States was born 21 Dec 1839 to Matthias States and Barbara Ann (Middleton) States in Indiana County, Pennsylvania. She married William W. Spencer in 1855. He was born in Indiana County, Pennsylvania in 1834, the son of Daniel Cover Spencer and Lydia (Pierce) Spencer. He died in 1863 when returning from the Civil War. They had three children: Anna, Joseph and John. She married Sylvanus Payne White on 05 March 1868 in Canoe, Indiana County, Pennsylvania. He was born 24 Sept 1827 to Parlin White & Nancy (Payne) White in Jefferson County, Pennsylvania. They had three children: Cyrena, William and Aldaretta. They moved to Umpqua, Douglas County, Oregon in about 1888. Nancy died at her home on Cole Road in Umpqua on 06 Apr 1908. She has buried on 07 Apr 1908 at Coles Valley Cemetery in Umpqua, Douglas County, Oregon.
