Mr. Sims, 87, of Deville passed away Thursday, September 4, 2014 at Oak Haven Nursing Home, Center Point.
He was a member of Big Island Baptist Church and deacon for many years. In 1947, he moved from Kermit, Texas to Deville and married Rena Tyler. Rena died in 1978, later he married Ethel R. Smith. Mr. Sims worked for Sears as a service tech for 20 plus years. After leaving Sears, he worked as an independent service tech. He loved hunting and fishing and enjoyed the great outdoors including gardening. Mr. Sims was a people person and loved lending a helping hand to people in need. He loved his family and will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rena Tyler; parents, Charlie Wesley and Mary Fatima Williams Sims; 14 brothers and sisters.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Ethel Reed Sims; daughter, Rita Francis Sims; step-son, Bertis Aubrey Smith; brother, Billy Sims and wife, Ruthie; sister, Murrell Purkhiser and husband, Joe; grandchildren, Misty Belgard and Kristy Belgard; great grandchild, Peyton A. Richard; step-grandchildren, Anthony Smith wife, Kim, Derek Clark and wife, Loretta, Cody Clark and wife, Selema; honorary granddaughter, Beth Saltzman; many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Wyatt Belgard, Lloyd Reed, Mattie Reed, Jr., D. H. Reed, T. Ray Deville and Matt Reed. Honorary pallbearers will be Shelton Reed, Ezra Reed and Peyton A. Richard.
