David Anthony “Tony” Marshek, 52, a Maribel resident, died Thursday evening, Sept. 12, 1996, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. The son of the late Victor and Betty (Wessely) Marshek was born on Oct. 23, 1943, in Manitowoc and lives most of his life in the Maribel area. Tony graduated from Denmark High School in 1961 and from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in 1966. He married the former Shirley Ashenbrenner on May 18, 1974 at Holy Family Church in Wittenberg and they enjoyed more than 22 years together. Tony owned and operated Marshek Machining from 1976 until 1994. He was an active and past member of the Maribel Lions and the Viking Rescue Squad. He was also a member of St. James Catholic Church in Cooperstown. Tony enjoyed spending time both hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley; his two children, Pam and David, both at home; one brother, Vic and Charlotte Marshek, Hilbert; three sisters, Diane and Ed Genz, Maribel; Sherri and Glen Jahnke, Manitowoc ; Gerri Marshek, Denmark; mother-in-law, Ethel Ashenbrenner.
He was preceded in death by a son, Brian; his parents and his father-in-law, Ernest.
Friends may call at the Knutson-Cotter Funeral Home, 536 County Hwy R, Denmark, from 4 until 8 p.m. on Sunday. Parish prayer service at 7 p.m; Friends may call on Monday at St. James Catholic Church, Cooperstown from 9:30 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. with Father Ronald Columbo officiating; Burial in the church cemetery; In lieu of flowers a memorial fund in Tony’s name has been established.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of Unity Hospice for the kindness and care shown to Tony and his family.
