Pershing Q. Horton, age 89, of P.O. Box 365, Resovoir Street, Three Springs, PA., passed away at 4:20 P.M., on Sunday, August 24, 2008, at the Malta Home, Granville, PA.

Mr. Horton was born on September 24, 1918, in Woodvale, PA., (Bedford County), a son of the late George and Eunice (Waite) Horton.

He was married to Maxine E. (Park) Horton on February 8, 1942, in Hagerstown, MD.

She survives at their home. Also surviving are 5 children: Florine Ulsh of Three Springs, Eileen Heaster and husband John of Chambersburg, Richard Horton and wife Florine of Three Springs, Naomi Smith and husband Eugene of Three Springs, Paula Bruni and husband Joe of Louisville, Ohio, There are 12 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren and one brother Chester Horton and wife Lena of Hummelstown, PA.

He was preceded in death by a grandson Terry Heaster, and a granddaughter Melissa Cutshall and 9 brothers and sister, Sheldon Horton, Roy Horton, Vaughn Horton, Ewell Horton, Hubert Horton, Olin Horton, Tennyson "Lindy" Horton, Eugene Horton, and Chloe Horton Nelson.

Mr. Horton was a member of the 1st Baptist Church, Three Springs, where he had taught the adult Sunday school class for many years.

He graduated from Robertsdale High School in 1936 and also took post graduate courses. Following high school he began working in coal mines in Robertsdale and Somerset. He later became a well known car salesman, first at the former A. N. Kerling Chevrolet, Three Springs, and later at the former Garner Motors in Huntingdon, a job he held for many years. He also was a "Justice of the Peace," now known as a District Justice, with an office in Saltillo for 20 years.
He will be remembered as a community minded individual who was involved in many community projects, including the Three Springs Swimming Pool.

He was a lifetime member of the Mercersburg Moose Lodge and a charter member of the Three Springs Lions Club.

Private services will held and burial will be made in Haven Rest Memorial Park, Croghan Pike, Shirleysburg, PA. There will be no public viewing or visitation. Memorial contributions can be made to: 1st Baptist Church, Three Springs, PA 17264.
