AUSTIN EDWARD BURDICK

Austin Edward Burdick, the son of the late Bert and Sarah Esther (Koch) Burdick, was born September 7, 1928 in Perryton, Texas. He entered into eternal rest on August 18, 2012 in Boise City, Oklahoma at the age of 83 years.

Austin and his family lived a short time in Perryton, Texas then moved to Gravette, Arkansas. Austin left Gravette at the age of 12, when to Hooker, Oklahoma to pull broom corn he pulled broom corn one day and said there ought to be a better way to make a living!! Austin then went to Guymon to live with an uncle and work with him. They went to a cattle sale in Guymon where he met Jim Jordan and Jim hired him to work there. Austin felt like he was getting rich making $20.00 a month working for Jim farming and ranching. Austin enjoyed rodeoing with Jim Jordan competing in the bareback riding and bull riding. Austin passed his love for rodeo to his daughter Debbie.

In 1943 his mother and 2 sisters drove from Arkansas to 4-corners in a model A roadster on their way to California and picked up Austin. He drove them all the way to California at the age of 15. Austin stayed in Gilroy, California one year. He left and came back to 4-corners to Jim Jordan's where he worked for many years.

Austin was united in marriage to Phyllis McCabe on December 14, 1951 at the First Baptist Church Parsonage in Boise City. To this union 5 children were born; Wanda, Debbie, Jimmy, Pam and Gay.

In 1955 Austin started combining with a 55 John Deere combine around 4-corners.

In 1958 they moved to Boise City and b ought a Gleaner combine, that is when Burdick and Daughters Custom Combining started. For the next 39 years they harvested from western Oklahoma to the Canadian border.

Austin was a hard worker all his life. He knew how to fix anything he tackled. He loved being outside whether it was working in the fields or out with the buffalo and cattle. He enjoyed working in his yard and caring for his trees and roses.

Austin accepted Christ as his Lord and personal savior in 1968. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Boise City, and baptized in 1999 by Derek Cox. He loved being in the house of the Lord. He loved going early every Sunday morning greeting the Praise Team and listing to them practice.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Jimmy in 1996, two brothers, Don and Wilbert, two sisters Bueanna Batey and Ethel Bunch.

Survivors include: his wife Phyllis of the home, four daughters, Wanda Irwin and husband Jim of Elk City, Oklahoma, Debbie Kincannon and husband Gary of Boise City, Pam Wiley and husband Darrell, Keyes, Oklahoma and Gay Otto and husband John of Enid, Oklahoma. Tow sisters; Daisy Ervin and Hazel Stucky both of Eugene, Oregon, eleven grandchildren; Jeannie Seni of Weatherford, Oklahoma, Brenda Trainham of Elk City, Oklahoma, Derek Kincannon of Boise City, Oklahoma, Tia Kincannon of Amarillo, Texas, Curtis Wiley of Barlow, Oklahoma, Douglas Wiley of Boise City, Oklahoma, Mathew Wiley of Keyes, Oklahoma, Brady Burdick of Perryton. Texas, Justin Otto and wife Brenna of Duncan, Oklahoma and Sarah Otto of Enid, Oklahoma, five great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. He loved his family very much and was proud of all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Thursday, August 23, at 2:00pm at the First Baptist Church, Boise City with Brian Long and Ordean Nelson officiating. Interment will be in the Willowbar Cemetery, Keyes, Oklahoma. The family has suggested memorials to the Cimarron Regional Food Pantry or to Donor's Choice, they may be left in care of the mortuary.
