Ella was the sixth child born to James and Catherine (Cann) Larmore. She moved with the family from Butler Co., OH to Anderson, IN as a young girl, learning to appreciate and value the ground upon which her father built their home and a prosperous farm.

In 1884, Ella married William Blacklidge, a young man from the area. Together they shared life until William was taken from her by death at an early age. Struggling to make ends meet, Ella took in boarders for many years.

Ella's only son, Herbert, was her special blessing from her marriage to William Blacklidge.
