OBITUARY
Laura Tackitt was born Sept. 2, 1869 Near Weatherford, Texas and died at Leedey, Oklahoma, December 27, 1929, at the age of 60 years, 4 months and 25 days.
She became deaf from illness when she was about six months old, receiving her education in a deaf and dumb school, at Austin, Texas.
She was converted at the age of sixteen, in the Deaf and Dumb Church at Austin, Texas, and lived a consistent Christian life until her death. At the time of her departure she was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, in Leedey.
On December 2, 1894, she was united in marriage to Jackson J. Ball at Decatur, Texas, where they lived until coming to Oklahoma. They homesteaded a farm near Texmo, and most of the time since have lived near or in Leedey.
Mrs. Ball spent a joyous Christmas with her daughter, Mrs. Dodd, at Thomas, going from there to Frederick, and spending the night with Mr. Ball's parents. They returned to Leedey the afternoon of the 26th. That evening she was taken seriously ill and passed to her reward at 11 o'clock p.m. the next day.
Mrs. Ball was an admirable woman, a devoted mother, and a friend to everyone she met. She was held in high esteem by the entire community, and the vacancy left in the home and in the community will be keenly felt.
The funeral was conducted at the Methodist church in Leedey, by Rev. C. M. Oursler, Sunday afternoon, December 29th, and the remains were laid to rest in the Evergreen cemetery.
Those left to mourn her death are her husband, Jackson J. Ball, of Leedey; two daughters, Mrs. Roy Dodd, of Thomas, Oklahoma, and Mrs. Calvin Allen, of Los Angeles, California; one sister, Mrs Chas. Bowles, of Ft. Worth, Texas; three brothers, Luther Tackitt, of Leedey, Wayne Tackitt, of Darousette, Texas, and Pleas Tackitt of Spearman, Texas; one grandson and two Granddaughters, besides a host of other relatives and friends.
