John "J. C." Snider, son of Barton Snider and Elizabeth Bailey, was born in Vermillion County Illinois December 1, 1842

The Snider Family migrated from Illinois to Kansas by covered wagon with Benjamin Franklin Marlett, losing their mother Elizabeth and possibly a newly born brother, who were buried along the wagon trail. Barton Snider and his 6 children (John, Arena, Rebecca, William Alem, and David) settled in Linn County KS. In 1857

John Snider served in the Civil War, KS. Company K 12th Regiment and is noted in the Union Defenders of Kansas 1865 at http://www.skyways.org/genweb/archives/statewide/military.civilwar/1865d.htm.

John married Harriet Matilda "Tilley" Dunlap, daughter of James E. Dunlap and Lilly Elizabeth (Unknown) Dunlap, at the home of his father, Barton Snider, in Linn County KS. On December 6, 1868, by J. P. John M. Chessman. Four known children were born to this union:
Effie Snider Johnson (1869-1955),
Grace Snider Cross (1871-1958),
Tressora Snider DeVier Johnson (1873-1962),
Horace "Bert" Snider (1878-1952).

John and Tilley migrated to Greenwood County before March 1875, and lived out their lives in the Fall River Community.
