Florence Amy Brower McCashland was born to James Henry and Cora Oliver Brower on June 14, 1913, in Geneva, and passed away April 13, 2001, at the Tabitha Nursing Home in Lincoln, at the age of 87 years, 8 months and 29 days. She was one of two children in the family.

Florence was raised in the Geneva area and attended country school and then graduated from the Geneva High School with the Class of 1931.

Florence was married to Harold McCashland of Geneva, on July 11, 1935, and to them four children were born.

Florence lived in various places in Nebraska as her husband, Harold worked in construction. She also worked as a bookkeeper for the family business, the Service Station, Venus Oil and the Garbage Route. After that she worked at Bedford’s in Geneva as a bookkeeper, then at Jack & Jill Grocery Store as a checker. In later years, she also worked at Ben Franklin and Weaver’s Drug Store as a clerk.

Florence enjoyed being around people, and also enjoyed her crocheting, making afgans for each of her grandchildren. She also made baby blankets for each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Florence crocheted a large wall hanging of the Lord’s Prayer for each of her children. She did some of her crochet while watching and listening to the Nebraska football games. Florence was an avid Husker fan, as her son and one of her grandsons played for the Cornhuskers and one grandson was on the Cornhusker’s track team.

Florence loved to be with her family, and the main reason she moved to Lincoln eight years ago, was to be near her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Florence was preceded in death by her parents, James H. and Cora G. Brower, and her husband Harold, who died on Sept. 13, 1980,

She is survived by two sons, Dick and wife Patricia, Donn and wife, Cynthia, all of Lincoln; two daughters, Coryle and husband, Tom Cook of Lincoln and Mary and husband Alan Theobald of Seward; a brother, John H. and wife, Charlene Brower of Geneva; sister-in-law, Phyllis Svatos; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted from the Farmer & Son Funeral Home, Geneva, on Tuesday, April 17th, with Rev. Jay Mitchell officiating. Susan Kleinschmidt accompanied Beth Ashjornson McCashland who sang “Going Home,” “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere” and “The Lord’s Prayer.” Susan also accompanied the congregation who sang “Amazing Grace.”

Casket bearers were Florence’s grandchildren, Dr. Tim McCashland, Scott McCashland, Mike McCashland, Patrick McCashland, Corey Cook, Chris Cook, Jeff Theobald and Doug Theobald. Honorary casket bearers were Vicki Duncan, Cindi Bjorkman, Ann Kirby and Nicole Theobald.

Interment was in the Geneva Public Cemetery.
