William H. Barton was captured by the confederate troops at Jones Cross roads, Mississippi on 10-26-1863 and were taken to the pow camp in Andersonville, GA, and died of exposure.
There were five Barton brothers who served in Company L of the 1st Alabama Cavalry, USV under Captain Sanford Tramel and then Captain Alonson Edwards: Jonathan, Gilford, James, Madison, and William H. They had three brothers-in-law who also served in the regiment: F.C. Harris, Jesse D Hyde, and Thomas H Blackstock.
