Architect. He is a well-known and respected Budapest architect. Born a Polish nobleman, his family fled to Hungary for political reasons. After graduating from high school, he graduated from what is now the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, following with studies in Germany, England and France on a state scholarship until 1888. Finishing a period of employment for the Eiffel Company in Paris, he opened an engineering office in Budapest in 1889, where he was primarily involved in bridge design and railway trace marking, which used iron structures. He became a lecturer at Budapest University starting in 1897. With the increase in subway construction world-wide, he created the "Hungarian Metropol Railway" plan in Budapest. He earned his doctorate degree, being the first engineer to receive a doctorate in metro system design. After working with his colleagues in France, he was the first in the country to advocate to use reinforced concrete for building. In 1900 he petitioned to have a professional organization for engineers but this did not happen until March of 1923. He was appointed the first president of the group but died within six weeks. He has a long list of bridges that he built, with some being destroyed in World War II. To his credit, he built water towers, part of the Budapest Academy of Music, and railroad stations. There are streets named in his honor. In the 21st century, his alma mater has a Zielinski College of Solid Civil Engineering and there is on campus a bronze bust of him on display in his honor.
