Martha Jane was a twin to Lemma Ann. They were the last of thirteen children born to Joseph Poyser, Jr. and Martha Magdalena Reed. Martha Jane married Otto E. Oberlin. He was the brother of Martha's sister's husband, Jacob L. Oberlin. Their children were double cousins, which was not an uncommon thing in those days.
