BEAUFORT - Jule Duncan Wheatly, 61, of Beaufort, died Oct. 7, 2011, at home. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Mon., Oct. 10 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church with the Revs. John Carlisto, Paul Head and Thomas Midyette officiating. He was a 1972 graduate of The Citadel and was president of Beaufort Fisheries until his retirement in 2003. He served as chairman of the Carteret General Hospital Board of Directors. He was a member of the North Carolina Fisheries Commission and the Mid-Atlantic Fisheries Council. Survivors include his wife, Nancy Wheatly; daughter, Anne Wheatly of Atlanta, Ga.; sons, Duncan Wheatly of High Point, and John Wheatly of Asheville; father, Claude R. Wheatly Jr., of Beaufort; brothers, Claude R. Wheatly III, David A. Wheatly and George Edward Wheatly, all of Beaufort; and two grand-children. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Sun. at Brooks Funeral Home, Morehead City. Memorials may be made to Raab Oncology Clinic, 302 Medical Park Court, Morehead City, NC 28557. Jule Duncan Wheatly, 61, of Beaufort, died Friday, October 7, 2011, at home. He was born in Morehead City on July 19, 1950 to Claude R. Wheatly, Jr. and Alice Aiken Wheatly. Mr. Wheatly was a 1972 graduate of The Citadel. He married Nancy Taylor at St. Paul's Episcopal Church on August 9, 1975. He was president of Beaufort Fisheries until his retirement in 2003. He served as chairman of the Carteret General Hospital Board of Directors and the Carteret County Republican Party. He was a member of the North Carolina Fisheries Commission and the Mid-Atlantic Fisheries Council.

While a cadet at The Citadel; he was a member of Oscar Company, Fourth Battalion. He was a cadet platoon sergeant in his junior year and a Senior class private. He was a member of the History Club and he was a awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in History May 20, 1972.

SERVICES
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 10, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church with the rector, the Rev. John Carlisto, officiating and the associate rector, the Rev. Paul Head, and the Rev. Thomas Midyette, assisting.
