Herbert W. Engelbrecht

Herbert W. Engelbrecht, age 79, of 2117 Garfield St., Two Rivers, died Sunday, May 16, 1993, at Two Rivers Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Ascension Day, Thursday, May 20, 1993, at St. John Lutheran Church, Two Rivers. The Rev. Edward Stelter will officiate with burial in Forest View Cemetery, Two Rivers.

He was born June 18, 1913, in the Town of Two Creeks, son of the late Herman and Albertina Kempfert Engelbrecht. He attended Lakeview School in Two Creeks and as a young man was employed by Gust Ebel at the Town of Two Creeks Cheese Factory and obtained a cheesemakers license. He was married to Florence Benesh at St. John's Lutheran Church, Two Creeks, June 10, 1936, by the Rev. Walter Kleinke. They moved to Two Rivers when he became interested in automobile body repair and first took employment with Parlow Motors of Manitowoc in 1940. Later he was employed by the Two Rivers Auto Service Company for many years. He also worked in auto body repair for LaFond Brothers and then for many years at the Langer Brothers Garage. In 1953 he established Herb's Body Shop which he owned and operated until his retirement. After his retirement his son Douglas continued the business. He had served on the St. John Church council and was a past president of the St. John's Lutheran Men's Club.

Survivors include his wife, Florence; one son, Douglas Engelbrecht, Two Rivers; one daughter, Gail Mahnke, Marshall, Mich.; two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Engelbrecht and Eleanore Engelbrecht, both of Two Rivers. He was preceded in death by a daughter Sandra Ann, four brothers, Arthur, Louis, Albert and Walter Engelbrecht and a sister, Mrs. Emma Hayden.

Friends may call at the Klein and Stangel Funeral Home from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, 1993, and from 1 p.m. Thursday, until the time of services at the church.
