At the 1855 Massachusetts State census he lived in a boarding house in Fitchburg, not far from the home of the Buttrick family, one of whose daughters he would soon marry.
After the death of his first wife, he married 2) Mary Susan Buttrick on 6 Dec 1859 in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. Their marriage record calls him a chair manufacturer.
At the Massachusetts State census of 1865 and in 1870 he lived in Fitchburg with wife, son and a servant.
In 1880 he lived in Fitchburg with wife, son Walter, Walter's family, and a boarder. He was called a retired chair manufacturer.
He died of liver disease at the age of 70.
