He was born Nov. 23, 1917 in the town of Peck, a son of the late John and Theresa (Hoffman) Rasmussen.
Mr. Rasmussen married LaVerne Vaughan on July 24, 1940 in Davenport, Iowa. She preceded him in death on Jan. 5, 2006. After their marriage they lived in Illinois for several years.
Mr. Rasmussen moved to the town of Norwood where they owned and operated a farm from 1945 to 1960. He then worked as a welder at Ironworks in Wausau until retirement in 1988.
Mr. Rasmussen was a member of SS. Mary and Hyacinth Catholic Church and the Msgr. Conrad Saile Knights of Columbus Council 1002 in Antigo.
He enjoyed repairing clocks, especially grandfather clocks.
Survivors include a daughter, Bonnie (Doug) Washatko, Missoula, Mont., two sons, Ellsworth Rasmussen, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Paul (Susie) Rasmussen, Antigo, two sisters, Theresa Miller, Milwaukee, and Bernice Smith, Manitowoc, numerous grandchildren, three of whom he raised, Robin (Greg) Verhasselt, Phlox, DiAnn Robinson, Hudson, and Sarah (Brian) Austad, Tewksbury, Mass., and many great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, James, a daughter, Lois Brennan, two grandchildren, Anthony Robinson and Orlando Gibbs, five brothers, Elmer, Melvin, Clarence, Johnnie and Raymond, four sisters, Ruth, Christine, Hulda and Anna.
