Elsie Carol Hoffman, one of seven children of Laura Grace (Edie) and Harold Albert Adair, Sr., was born on May 17, 1935 in Malvern, Iowa. While Elsie was growing up, her family moved and lived throughout southwest Iowa while her father worked for the railroad. Elsie graduated from the Silver City High School in 1953. Following school, she worked at the 1st National Bank in Omaha, Nebraska.

Elsie and Richard Edward Hoffman were married on July 7, 1957 at the United Methodist Church in Silver City. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Jeffrey and Diane. Richard worked as a meat cutter at various meat businesses in Nebraska and Iowa. The family lived in Omaha until 1969 when they moved to Silver City.

Elsie and Richard were married 40 years when Richard passed away on February 15, 1998.Â

Elsie was a member of the Silver City United Methodist Church. She and Richard loved to dance and made quite a dance couple. Elsie was an excellent caregiver to her husband and family. She loved taking care of children and often babysat for her grandsons and later on for neighbor boys, Ben and Grant Ramsey. Elsie enjoyed cooking, making homemade noodles, and was famous for her banana nut bread. Everyone loved her ham balls, goulash, and meatloaf.

Elsie passed away on September 3, 2012 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, at the age of 77 years, 3 months, and 16 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Richard; two infant daughters; son Jeff Hoffman in 1978; son-in-law Doug Livengood; brothers, Lawrence "Tony" Adair, and Harold Adair, Jr.; and brother-in-law Charles Hurst.Â

Elsie is survived by her daughter Diane Hoffman of Council Bluffs; grandsons, Jeffrey Livengood and Justin Livengood, both of Council Bluffs; one great grandson Jameson; sisters, Joann Mayne of Colorado Springs, CO, Elizabeth Barnes and husband Bill, and Phyllis Boyer and husband Jim, all of Silver City, Sharon Hurst of Sevierville, TN, and Marlene Chambers and husband Larry of Glenwood; sister-in-law Verla Adair of Malvern, IA, nieces and nephews; other relatives; and friends.
